I just finished planting 90 daffodil bulbs in clay soil in about 90 minutes. But the real point isn't the length of time it took but the effort required. Short version: not much. It was quite a pleasant 90 minutes, if you can imagine that. And I should add that I'm a 60+-year-old woman on the small side. Just amazing.
Ladies, if you give this a try, be sure to have a good grip on your drill. If you hit a rock or some other obstacle, the drill will spiral hard and wrench your wrist. But that's just what happens when using a drill, not a criticism of the bulb auger.
Last spring, in a triumph of fantasy over reality, I ordered 400 bulbs. It wasn't long before I regretted the order, thinking I'd never be able to get the bulbs planted. But this product is making that fantasy come true. Three-hundred more bulbs to go -- most of them shallow plantings, like crocus -- and I'm actually looking forward to it. This is the ONLY way to plant bulbs.

Works like described
I never leave reviews... but after a few days of rain I got to work on hard packed clay with queen palm and pigmy date palm roots in every inch. YOU MUST HAVE LOW SPEED on your drill. I used a 12 V cordless and absolutely made short work of both areas. My intention was to just make holes for new ground cover, however I ended up "tilling" all of the dirt, adding admendts, and tilling again. The next day I planted 216 Gaznia. The strength of the auger with the hex drill bit is awesome. Very very well made. Saturate the soil and go to work..
I love this tool. I plan on purchasing more for my friends and family fgr gifts.
Makes me look back at all the years of digging holes and shake my head. So happy with this purchase. My 8 year old was able to use it with a little instruction. Don't forget to toggle down the speed on your drill or you will have a dirt shower. I would buy again and recommend to family n friends!
Oh my gosh. I want you guys to know- this thing is AMAZING! I used it to plant 108 liriope, and it took me about 3.5 hours (including digging out some rock, and mixing in planting soil, etc.) There is absolutely no way at all I could have done that by hand. It has, in the past taken me about 10 minutes to chisel a small hole into our rocky, red clay yard. But this tool made the job so, so much easier.
It does its job
My soil is hard clay in some areas and filled with tree roots in others. It was tough digging with a shovel, spade or any other tool. This auger is strong and wide enough to loosen soil easily and it does a great job. Sometimes it gets caught in roots, but just reverse your drill and your out. It saves LOTS of time and LOTS of energy. On occasion, it slips, but I just tighten the drill and get on with it.
wow, so far 25 post holes. rocks and roots can't break this thing. must be made from kryptonite, awesome bit.
Makes digging holes in the ground a lot easier. I use it for planting plants and digging post holes. The fact that it attaches to my electric drill makes it very easy to use.
Very surprised at how robust this auger is. It works great!
Worked as i excpected
Honestly, this is one of the most amazing tools I have. I also have one that is 2.5" in diameter for smaller plug plants. I planted over 150 flower plants this last spring in less than 30 minutes. Drilled all the holes in a patterns....plopped the plugs in, covered with the nicely broken up soil and was done. If you don't have this or at very minimum, the smaller version, THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR LANDSCAPING AND GARDEN
Lifesaver!!! (BackSaver). I had to dig some fence posts. I dug one with a regular manual post hole digger. Nightmare. Packed soil, sand, gravel, etc.
Fast delivery, excellent item, by recommending! Grazieeeeee!
